Swimming Pool Heaters FAQs

BASIC INQUIRIES...
Why should I heat (or optional cool) my pool?
How about a return on your investment? If you only use your pool half the year because it's too cold then you're not maximizing your investment. By heating your pool you receive a greater return on your investment by extending your swimming season in the cooler months - in most cases doubling it! Double the comfort, entertainment, healthful exercise, and relaxation opportunities you've come to enjoy. In many areas of the USA and many desert areas worldwide, cooling the pool or spa water may be required to continue pool usage during much warmer summer months.
What pool heating methods are currently available?
There are four basic heating systems available today;
  • Solar Energy
  • Fossil Fuel (LP gas, natural gas or oil)
  • Electric Resistance
  • Heat Pump
How much will it cost to operate a pool heat pump?
That is dependent on several factors (i.e.; pool size, geographic location, usage patterns, temperature preferences, etc.). But our pool/spa heat pump representative can take all the guess work out by developing you a "no-cost" computer generated energy cost estimate/comparison report based upon your personal criteria.
How expensive is a pool heat pump system?
A pool/spa heat pump dependent on it's size can range in costs from $2,500 - $4500. Although a pool/spa heat pump may require a slightly higher initial purchase investment, when compared with a fossil fuel heater, it is far more efficient system. It is the most cost-effective pool and spa heating method available today! Due to the substantially lower operational costs the slightly higher initial cost of the system is generally recovered in the first or second swimming season!
Why is a pool heat pump an ecologically smart choice?
The heat pump provides, extremely affordable year-round swimming, guaranteed temperatures and safe operation, without fossil fuel dependency, unsightly equipment or pollutants which could damage our environment.
After extracting the heat from the air and transferring it to the water, the heat pump expels the de-energized cold air back into the atmosphere. Since fossil fuels are not used in the process there are no damaging pollutants or dangerous carbon monoxide fumes created. The process is very clean, efficient and ecologically safe! The pool/spa heat pump provides complete heating in a single, compact, easily installed package. No unsightly or potentially dangerous storage tanks or roof panels are required. And because the heat pump uses natural sun warmed air, a renewable energy source, and a minimal amount of electricity, it has proven to be the most efficient and cost-effective means for heating pool and spa water.
How involved is the installation of a pool heat pump system?
The heat pump is a single, compact, easily installed package. A 220 volt dedicated circuit and attachment to your existing pool pump is basically it! Proper placement is critical to the performance of the pool/spa heat pump. A concrete slab may be required, unless there is enough room on an existing slab. The area must meet a minimum clearance requirement. Plants or shrubs may need to be moved. Sprinkler heads within 6 feet of the unit will need to be moved capped or redirected. Some chlorinating devices may need to be moved or replaced to protect the heat pump from chemical damage. A loop and chemical resistant check valve must be installed. This mandatory step will insure the maximum life span of the pool/spa heat pump.
